José Eduardo Pinto da Costa

José Eduardo de Lima Pinto da Costa(b. Cedofeita, Porto, April 3, 1934), Licentiate in Medicine[1] and specialised in Forensic Medicine, is a renowned Portuguese doctor specialized in legal medicine. One of the best medics of the country and a known specialist, he is the former director of the Porto Legal Medicine Institute. He was forced to resign along with other responsibles after some technical comments over the aftermath of some of the bodies of the Hintze Ribeiro disaster that were seen by some as too harsh. He has also campaigned for the legalization of abortion in Portugal. He teaches forensics at the Lusíada University of Porto.

The eldest of six children of José Alexandrino Teixeira da Costa (Foz do Douro, Porto, June 9, 1910 – Aldoar, Porto, December 6, 1977), a Merchant, and wife (m. Cedofeita, Porto, November 15, 1932) Maria Elisa Bessa de Lima de Amorim Pinto (São Mamede de Infesta, Matosinhos, May 15, 1913 – November 14, 1997), one of his brothers is Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, the President of FC Porto.

He married on January 8, 1962 Maria da Graça de Freitas do Amaral Lobo Machado, of the Viscounts of Paço de Nespereira (b. Guimarães, November 18, 1934), a first cousin of Diogo de Freitas do Amaral, and had two sons and one daughter:
